Camp Electives

Bard’s College

“I have seen many mornings in which the sun rises upon the bodies of my enemies. Today, you will have that same destiny.”  — Garmong Kyshoon, Tiefling Monk, Age 10

Our bards are here to put the “role” in role-playing and give a class on acting, character voice, and other basic role-playing skills. And no bard can be caught without a tune, so with our help, your kids will also write an epic song!

Bard’s College promotes skills like acting, empathy, and problem-solving.

Board Games

Play an assortment of sophisticated and strategic board games, like Castle Panic, Quartz, and Santorini. We have cooperative games and social deduction games, building games and card games, and much more, all available through secure websites like Tabletopia.

The Board Games elective promotes skills like critical thinking, planning, and risk management.

D&D Mini-Adventures

Even the mightiest heroes need a break! In these mini Dungeons & Dragons sessions, we explore a whole new side of your characters! From fishing to feasts to festivals, figure out what your character likes to do in their free time, and take part in these relaxing, fun adventures.

Making a Dungeon

Mystery! Danger! Treasure! For every party of adventurers looking for monsters and loot, there must be a dungeon to hold those things. Your kids will learn the ins and outs of building and running a dungeon for other players, just like our expert Game Masters.

Making a Dungeon promotes skills like design, storytelling, and world building.

Minecraft

Your kids will work together to build whatever their minds can conceive, in a NYSoP server that remains constant from day to day, so that they can engage in long-term projects.

Minecraft promotes skills like mathematical literacy (especially geometry), project planning, and resource management.

IMPORTANT NOTE: High-end Computer is Required for Minecraft! The following devices will NOT work during our workshop:

  • Chromebook
  • iPad
  • Kindle
  • Phone

Pokémon Trainer School

Collect! Strategize! Battle! Pokémon and other Monster Battling games have excited children for nearly three decades. Your kids will learn the basics of building a Pokémon team and battle each other’s teams on the website Pokémon Showdown.

Pokémon Trainer School promotes skills like sportsmanship, strategy, and value assessment.

World Building

Work as a team with your fellow campers to bring your own world to life! Decide what kinds of people live there, how they live, and what kinds of dangers they must face. Brainstorm collaboratively about the wild, varied elements of creating a fantasy setting. This is a perfect activity for an aspiring writer or dungeon master in the making!
