Live Program Policy 2022

Families currently enrolled in live afterschool programs for the 2022 Winter Semester have the following options:

  • Continue with live afterschool
  • Opt into hybrid afterschool
  • Cancel reservation

Please read the information below to learn our policies for all of these options.

Opting to Stay in Live Afterschool

The New York Society of Play will have counselors and pickup staff for all families who decide to keep their children in our live afterschool programs. Afterschool will run as normal from 3-6PM, and all current program policies will be in effect. All COVID precautions will stay in effect. Any child attending our live programs MUST have at least one COVID vaccine dose.

If a family decides to switch into the hybrid program after attending an in-person session, we require at least 24 hours notice by email or phone to convert the registration into a hybrid registration. Any families who opt into our hybrid program fewer than 24 hours in advance will not be able to participate in the online hybrid class until the following week.

Opting for Hybrid Afterschool

The New York Society of Play is offering a hybrid program for families who do not yet feel comfortable sending their children to live afterschool programs.

For families opting to go online, all afterschool programs will take place on the same day from 4-6PM (2 hours); unless an alternative time and date are given. To compensate for the reduction of class time, families will receive a 25% rebate for every class attended online. 

Families have the freedom to decide when to return to the live program. Any child attending our live programs MUST have at least one COVID vaccine dose.

The New York Society of Play requires no less than 48 hours notice by email or phone for afterschool walking pickup. Any parents who opt into our live program fewer than 48 hours in advance of their session will be responsible for their child’s transportation to our program. Any families who opt into our live program fewer than 24 hours in advance will not be able to participate until the following week.

Opting Out

Any families who opt out of our live afterschool program before the start of the 2nd session can receive a full refund. Any families who cancel their live afterschool reservation after this time will receive a 50% refund instead.

We encourage families who are opting out of live programs to consider our variety of online programs. We offer Dungeons & Dragons, Minecraft, and Pokemon workshops.

General COVID Policies

Masks and Prevention

Masks must be worn by staff and students at all times. Students may take a mask break separately from the group. 3 feet of social distancing is observed while in an indoor space. Air purifiers will be distributed throughout the space, and windows will be opened when possible.

COVID Case Detection

In the event of a reported COVID-19 case, NYSoP will

  • Email and text parents the same evening the case was reported, informing them of exposure and requesting a negative rapid COVID-19 test before attending their next class.
  • Send out a wave of phone calls the morning after confirming parents are aware of exposure.
  • Offer viable online options to the family of the child who contracted the virus
  • Mandate a COVID test for all staff in primary contact
  • Perform contact tracing across all classes at that location to determine which other classes need to be notified
  • Monitor all test results as they come in to determine what actions need to be taken for the class where the infection was reported.

Students are recommended to quarantine for 5 days or until the parents can provide a negative COVID test for the student. They may return to class with proof of a negative COVID test. If the class is within 4 days, a rapid test will suffice.

Parents may transition to the online option if they send written notice to [email protected] if quarantining, ill, or uncomfortable with attending physically.

School Closures

If one of the schools we provide walking pickup for goes remote, New York Society of Play will not do walking pickup from that school for the duration of the remote period. However, children from that school may still be dropped off at our afterschool venue for their scheduled program.

If the school district implements widespread remote learning, the New York Society of Play will transition to a fully online program.
